Why we exist, what we believe, and who we work with.

Why we exist

Loneliness in old age is not a mystery to be solved. Most of the people who could fix it are already there: children, grandchildren, neighbours, old friends, the congregation, the club, the carer down the hall. What's missing isn't love. It's a nudge at the right moment, and a way for everyone to see that someone has been.

GranWatch exists to switch those networks back on.

What we believe

We believe the answer to the loneliness epidemic is mostly already in place. The people around an elderly person are the cure; they just need to be activated, reminded and kept in step with one another.

We believe that when two or more people get behind one goal, something bigger than the sum of them appears. We call it 1 + 1 = 11. A daughter on her own visits when she can. A daughter, a son, two grandchildren and a neighbour who can all see the same picture visit far more than five separate people ever would, and the weight stops falling on one person.

We believe that caring for the old is the same responsibility as caring for the very young. An infant's need is obvious. An elderly parent's is quieter, easier to miss, and every bit as real: dignity and wellbeing in old age depend on other people showing up.

We believe caring is a verb. Good intentions don't count. A visit, a call, a bunch of flowers on the right day — those count, and GranWatch is built to make sure they happen.

Who it's for

Anyone with a loved one who could go too long without being seen. We say "Gran" because that's who this started with, but it works just as well for a father, an uncle, a neighbour, or a friend who lives alone.

Who we work with

We champion any individual or organisation that shares these values in practice: families, retirement villages, care homes, congregations, community groups, and the local businesses that help a family say "thinking of you" when they can't be there in person. A note from the founder

I built GranWatch after watching my own family struggle to stay close to an ageing grandmother — not for lack of love, but for lack of a shared picture of who'd been and when. It's a small app with a simple job: make sure no one you love goes unvisited.
